Splitting comma separated values into rows
SELECT A.substance,
Split.A.value('.', 'VARCHAR(2000)') AS String
FROM (SELECT substance, ID,
CAST ('<M>' + REPLACE(substance, ',', '</M><M>') + '</M>' AS XML) AS String
FROM [dbo].[final_substance]) AS A CROSS APPLY String.nodes ('/M') AS Split(A);
issue :
Msg 9420, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
XML parsing: line 1, character 248, illegal xml character
