Creating a new filtered database out of another
I'm currently working on a "street safe" app. In sum, it will show recent crime activity in the nearby area. I was originally planning on existing APIs, but they are too costly. Now, I want to make a database of recent crime activity (in a specified city) by grabbing/filtering the data of crime available to the public from the police department. It will filter the data to only show crime that has happened in that same day, maybe by comparing strings? This is the first time I've ever done this and I'm completely lost on where to start. My strategy for this is primarily based on a 'Trump Twitter bot' I saw some people make at a hackathon. Similar to the way the bot filtered phrases with specific keywords, I'd like to do the same with the crime data (street, description, date, etc)... but I don't know how. Any information that will push me to the right direction will be greatly appreciated.
