أوتو ويسمى بالسومرية أود و بالبابلية و الاشورية شمش، وهو إله الشمس بحسب الميثولوجيا السومرية وهو ابن إله القمر نانا و الالهة ننكال، وهو شقيق الإله إشكور و هو توأم إنانا و إيريشكيغال.^[1]^[2]^[3]

أوتو بحسب الميثولوجيا السومرية هو إله الشمس و العدل وتطبيق القانون و رب الحقيقة، ذكر هذا الإله في ملحمة جلجامش وفي العصر البابلي القديم عدل اسم هذا الإله وأصبح اسمه مردوخ واشتق من كلمة أمار أوتو أي العجل الصغير للشمس وله معنى آخر لهذا الاسم هو سيد الشمس.
